Hi y’all, so I got back from the Korra Air Artbook signing today around midnight [because I stopped at Earl of Sandwich in Anaheim for dinner after the event], and I had a good time. Even though most of it was just me and my friends waiting for ridiculous amounts of time.
[[sorry for the blurry pic, the dude taking the photo wasn’t very good at it. Nor did he care that it was so blurry…]]
We got to the Grove around 4:30 and immediately went to Barnes to get bracelets for the signing. The terms and conditions for being allowed to go to the event were really frustrating though because you absolutely had to purchase the book in order to attend the signing. And it had to be from the Barnes at the Grove and on that day. It wasn’t too bothersome for me since I hadn’t made the purchase yet, but Kelly had. So she and Kaitlyn bought it [and were going to return it after so they could meet them but not have to worry about admission]. The most ridiculous part was that they hadn’t checked for our wristbands since our letter group [each group was marked with a letter which corresponded where you would wait until a certain amount of people left the signing, allowing you to then move onto the next ‘stage’ of waiting space] was still inside the building. Groups F+ had to wait at Top Shop. I felt so bad for them. :/
Anyway, most of the wait time was passed between me and my friends with gossip and sketching. Kelly’s amazing quickies [Young!Tarrlok, Fem!Tarrlok, Korra, and Councilman!Sokka] are in Kaitlyn’s sketchbook along with two of my janky ones [Korra and Fancy!Asami].
When our favorite co-creators and their head-honcho art/designer/animator pals walked in, people cheered. One of my favorite parts of this trip was when Bryan commented on the massive attendance of 200 fans and a member of the audience yelled, “It’s a long line, and you gotta deal with it!” A girl in front of us [Kelly, Kaitlyn, and Jess] said he was her favorite person and she wanted to meet him.
Anyway, after their discussion, ending with “who were your favorite character designs?” Ryu’s being Meelo, of course [because the character was the ugly-cute he desired], we were marched off to newly designated waiting positions based on the letter marked on our wristband. Where we waited for a while and where/when we decided that it’d be a good idea to get something for the glorious Jeevani, who couldn’t make it out today with us.
Eventually we got to the table, and the closer we got to them, the more Kelly would say something like, “We’re so close” and “We’re four people away” and “We’re THREE PEOPLE away” and “we’re next.” And each time I’d lose my nervousness and immediately regain that anxiety with every notification.
Kaitlyn and I ended up giving them our collaboration we did in honor of the premier of Korra Book One: Air and I messed up in the presenting of the present [the clock halves weren’t touching/lined up next to each other]. I felt like it went over pretty well with telling them it was a present until I realized I totally bombed the actual presentation. *___* *sighs* Well, that’s over and done with now.
Kelly got to ask about Tarrlok and Noatak really being dead. And they are. For the longest time, Bryke, Joaquim, and Ryu were drawing pictures as they signed, but because of time constraints and misfortune, our group and beyond lucked out and were the cut-off. Knowing how things generally work for me, I and those with me always end up being the start of the cut-off. Always. So it really shouldn’t have surprised me that we were left in the cold. I’m really, really, really jealous of those girls in front of us. =~=
Aaand, I know this is pretty anticlimactic, but that’s the end. I mean, I drove us to Anaheim and we had a very late dinner, but that was the end of our adventure, lol.
And now, to wait for Sept 13 for Book Two: Spirits. *_* My body is ready for that. [[Mostly because I won’t have to speak and ruin myself with a crappy presentation.]]
